Characteristics
and Construction of Our Basket Weave Leather Rugs |
Hand made in South American telares. |
Basket-woven strips of vegetable tanned leather. Vegetable tanning involves organic materials such as bark, instead of traditional chemicals. |
Strips are 2" wide. (0.8" in the Narrow rugs) |
Strips are glued when woven and also glued to back pad. |
Borders are usually 4” wide and stitched to back pad. |
Most popular rug sizes include 5’ x 7’ and 6’ x 9’, although many different sizes are possible. However, width cannot exceed 10’. |
Strips are hand painted by artisans before weaving them. Most popular colors are light and dark brown. |
| |
Maintenance of Our Basket Weave Leather Rugs |
Almost maintenance free. If needed they can be vacuum cleaned. In case of spills, absorb excess liquid and clean with soft wet cloth and neutral soap or shampoo. Do not dry in direct sunlight. |
Avoid exposure to direct sunlight for lengthy periods (as with any leather article) |
If needed, clear silicon shoe polish will restore its original shine. |
When rolled, leather side should remain on the outside. Avoid keeping rolled for lengthy periods. Never leave rolls standing (lay rolls flat) |
